My name is Mpho Chuene and I am a music educator, musician and proud University of Pretoria (UP) alumnus.
I began cycling in 2026, inspired by my brother-in-law, who is an experienced cyclist. I started with mountain biking before exploring road cycling and have enjoyed the chance to improve my fitness, develop new skills and take on a fresh challenge.
On Sunday 22 November 2026 I will ride the 97 km Ride Joburg as a #Ride4UPDegrees Fundraising Champion. For a new cyclist, it is a significant personal milestone, requiring preparation, perseverance and a willingness to keep learning.
It is also an opportunity to give back to the University community through Degrees Delivered.
I worry about the financial pressures that make higher education difficult...
