My name is Thapelo Ndlabu, a qualified chef based in Johannesburg, South Africa. I’ve spent years working in some of the city’s top hotels and restaurants, designing menus and leading busy kitchens. But in mid-2024, I was retrenched. That moment changed my life—and set me on a mission to build something of my own.
Instead of giving in to despair, I took my savings and invested in a large commercial baking oven to begin raising funds for a dream I’ve long carried: launching my own mobile food truck business. I began selling scones and muffins at traffic lights and to local supporters—doing whatever I could to keep the vision alive.
But with limited funds, I eventually hit a financial wall. Now, I’m reaching out for help to raise R50,000 and take this dream all the way to the streets of Soweto and beyond.
