FROM HOPE TO FREEDOM: TUMAINI’S JOURNEY

The tiny chick we once called OutRoamer Jnr now has a name: Tumaini.

Meaning “hope” in Swahili, Tumaini has grown from a tiny, sleepy hatchling into a magnificent young Cape Vulture, and an important future member of this critically endangered species.

Together with VulPro, one of Africa’s leading vulture conservation organisations, the OutRoamer Wildlife Community has followed every step of this remarkable real-life journey.

We watched Tumaini hatch.

We survived the adorable Fluffybeak phase.

We watched those first adult feathers begin to appear.

We celebrated as Tumaini received a unique leg tag, and an identity that can be recognised for life.

Now, our young Sky Guardian is preparing for the greatest milestone of all:

Freedom.

But Tumaini’s story should not disappear the moment those wings take to the sky.
