Goukam Health APD started in 2011 as a community-based house for persons suffering from brain injuries. Our founder, Dr Alison Madden, had a dream for persons with disabilities to be able to live independently and found Riversdale to be the perfect spot. During the past 13 years, Goukam Health APD has evolved and developed into the organisation it is today. We offer the following services: Respite residential service, long-term residential care, social-and support service in the community for people with disabilities until the age of 60.
We received funding from the Department of Social Development from 2016, but from April 2024 we have received the bad news of a budget cut of R202 000 per year for Goukam Health APD. Fund raising strategies is ever since a first priority. Unfortunately, because of the budget cut, we are facing a lot of challenges to maintain our quality of service. If we do not get funding asap, we face closing our facility, leaving 6 people without any place to go and having 14 employees without an income.
