George Loses Leg In Horror Crash

George Mogwajane is a taxi driver from Swaneville, Gauteng. He is the husband of our domestic worker, Suzen Modiko, who has worked for our family since 2013. George is also a father of three and a grandfather of two children.

On the afternoon of Thursday, October 12, 2023, George was driving his taxi through the notorious N14/R28 - Pinehaven intersection. A mobile crane's brakes failed as it came down the hill, and it ploughed into trucks and other vehicles in the intersection. George's taxi was hit by one of the trucks, and it landed on its roof with George pinned underneath it. Sadly, three people, including two children who were passengers in George's taxi, died at the scene, and twenty other people were injured.

George was taken to Leratong Hospital with serious injuries to both of his legs. That night, George's right leg was amputated below the knee, and his left foot was stitched up. Because he is also diabetic, his stump wasn't healing well, and a second amputation was done above the knee.  A month and a half after the accident, George is finally back home!<...
