Geraldine Caldwell's Heart Surgery

Geraldine, sister of 2 other siblings, was scheduled for a c-section on the 1st of July 2025 at Mediclinic, Nelspruit. On 26 June 2025, an emergency arose and she was booked for an emergency c-section on that evening. At around 21:30, not aware of any complications, she was born. At around 00:00 in the morning hours, a nurse came to me with her clothes and blanket. She handed it over to me, said that she was sorry and walked away. I was in terrible shock and in a mindset that my child had died. About an hour later another nurse came to me to sign for her Mediclinic bag to be transferred to ICU. It was only then that i realized that she was admitted to the ICU unit. On Friday 27 June, I heard that she was in an incubator and that they are testing for Down Syndrome. Later that day, Jaundice was confirmed. Due to Nelspruit MediClinic not having the facilities for further tests and care, a Cardiologist from Sunninghill in Sandton, came through to check on her on Sunday, 29 June, 2025.
