About This Campaign
We refuse to give up on this incredible dog. Louie is only 3 years old, but has been through more than any dog should ever have to. After being attacked and mutilated with a machete in Madagascar, Louie was rescued, and after months of treatment flown to South Africa. He was meant to be released from quarantine on Friday 3 July, when we found out he had tested positive for heartworm.
Heartworm is treatable, but requires more funding. His boarding and final blood testing will cost about R4310 if he stays there for 6 weeks as planned. He is currently being treated and held at Kempton Park quarantine station.
He has had his heartworm treatment (6 and 7 July - two injections 24hrs apart). We HOPE that will be sufficient to treat the heartworm. His vet care is likely to cost around R5-8000 at this vet. This is significantly less than we expected, thanks to the exceptional kindness of the vets looking after him. However, there is still outstanding fees to the vet in Madagascar (about 2000 US dollars).
Louie was slashed across the face, his femur brok...
