GF Janse van Rensburg- Walking/ Medical Aid

On 4 August 2023, GF was involved in a devastating head-on collision with a truck. The accident left him paralyzed from the waist down. He suffered severe injuries, including a severed artery in two places, fractured ribs, extensive damage to his internal organs, and kidney failure that required three days of dialysis. Additionally, his right femur and foot were broken, and he lost two toes on his right foot. (The severed artery led to no blood supply going down his back, causing the nerve endings in his back to become damaged, which led to him being paralyzed). 

In the months following, GF endured multiple operations, during which his heart stopped multiple times. In December 2023, due to an infection, he suffered a heart attack, and his heart stopped beating for several minutes. Doctors feared for his life and were concerned about potential brain damage. GF has spent approximately 9 months going back and forth between rehab and hospital where 111 days was in ICU, 21 of which were under sedation. In April 2024, GF returned home for the first time in months.
