Glass for Change: Changing Lives through Recycling

Help us pay the homeless and informal recyclers for every glass bottle & jar they collect — and protect the planet while we’re at it.

Every glass item thrown away is a missed opportunity—to clean our streets, and to help someone in need.

A trial run was done over a period of roughly three months in the 2nd half of 2024! We bought glass bottles and jars from a family who's only source of income was informal recycling. They are currently selling plastic at R2.00 per kilo.

In comparison, this family were earning R2.00 for just 4 glass items. The bonus for them was that we went and collected the glass from where the "Pyp Clan" reside, and paid them in cash.

With all the research and trial runs now completed, we are launching a grassroots glass recycling campaign with a twist: we’re buying bottles and jars directly from homeless people and informal waste collectors, offering cash, dignity, and a chance at stability and a fair income.

Think about what this means for the economy of South Africa:&nb...
