At 18 years old, a young man should be planning his future.

He should be dreaming about studies, a career, adventures, love, and all the opportunities that lie ahead.

But for Hannes Hern, the biggest dream is simply this:

To live.

When Hannes was only 7 years old, he was diagnosed with Fanconi Anemia, a rare and life-threatening genetic disorder that causes bone marrow failure and prevents the body from producing healthy blood cells.

Since then, his life has been filled with hospitals, treatments, blood tests, procedures, and endless medical appointments.

For the past 11 years, Hannes has been fighting for his life every single day.

He has received nearly 500 bags of blood products, plasma, and platelets.

He has endured more than 2,000 needle pricks for blood tests, drips, and treatments.

He has undergone 17 bone marrow biopsies.

And through it all, he has never given up.

He has continued to smile.

He has continued to believe.

He has continued to hope.
