A 9-year-old fighting lymphoma. A mother standing alone. A family desperately needing our help.
At just 9 years old, Haywan Lu-Shaygan Godfrey should be attending school, playing rugby, laughing with friends and enjoying his childhood.
Instead, his young life has been interrupted by cancer.
On 21 May 2026, Haywan was diagnosed with lymphoma, turning his family's world upside down.
Originally from George in the Western Cape, Haywan and his mother, Shinayla, had to leave home to seek treatment at Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital in Cape Town.
Haywan has already endured multiple rounds of chemotherapy, and his journey is far from over.
But behind this brave little fighter is another heartbreaking story — a mother carrying the weight of this battle almost entirely on her own.
