18 year old Kaone Mazebedi of Botswana, has undergone successful treatment for Medulloblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer. Kaone was diagnosed at the age of 13 and underwent surgical resection and ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement and then completed chemotherapy and radiation. Despite Kaone's incredible fight and triumph, due to his neurosurgery, ototoxic medications, and radiation, he has suffered significant hearing loss.
Kaone is a bright young man and requires hearing aids to improve his quality of life and to ensure he can continue his academic ambitions. His schooling career has been compromised as he has fallen behind in his studies as he is unable to hear his teachers. His family have given all they have to get him this far but, are not in a position to finance the required equipment with the cost of the hearing aids in the region of R61 400, or are they in a position to send him to a school that will provide sufficient support to enable him to complete his studies.
