Mdu is intelligent, hardworking, humble and determined. Like many talented young people, he has ideas and ambition but lacks the resources and opportunity to turn his potential into a sustainable business.

For 14 years, he worked on a telecommunications business plan, seeking investment. When he finally presented it, investors were impressed by his research and articulation — but asked for proof of concept: an operational track record. Without infrastructure, equipment or financial stability, how can a young entrepreneur prove a business works?

This is the reality facing many young South Africans. They don’t lack ability. They lack opportunity.
