Thank you for taking the time to consider a donation towards a motorised wheelchair for Caitlin Johannes.

Caitlin is a learner at Cheré Botha Special School. The school was founded over 30 years ago by parents who were unable to find appropriate schooling for their daughter with Down Syndrome. The roots grounding the school are humble, but the expanse of the school is significant, currently supporting 330 learners with very high support needs. The school has diversified and now caters for children with autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. Although the Western Cape Department of Education (WCED) and the Department of Health do assist where feasible with assistive devices, funds are limited and already stretched. Therefore, learners with physical limitations are unlikely to receive motorised wheelchairs. Adding to this dilemma, most of the learners at our school come from difficult socio-economic circumstances and therefore the procurement of mobility aids by their parents is simply not feasible.
