Update 19/06/2026: Still Navigating the Long Road to Recovery
Dear friends and supporters,
I wanted to share a quick update on how Chris is still doing. Recovery after a major, life-saving surgery is not a straight line, and at 40, the body heals at its own pace. It is a slow and often silent process that requires patience and consistency.
We are currently in another "waiting period" as we prepare for the next an important appointment at Port Shepstone Hospital on July 14th. This visit is critical, as it will determine the next steps regarding his medical status and potential return to work. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of doctors at the hospital, this was the only appointment he could get and has since been without Sassa disability support since the end of April 2026.
We remain incredibly grateful to the surgeons and staff at Port Shepstone for the life-saving care Chris received, and we are thankful for the initial disability support that provided a bridge during the first few months.
