Hannes van Dyk is a sheep farmer from the Knersvlakte. The farm is situated about 450km from Cape Town between Bitterfontein and Kliprand. 13 years ago when he was 35 his eldest brother passed away from polycystic kidneys and around the same time Hannes was also diagnosed with the same illness. The past 13 years his health and kidney function has deteriorated, to the extend that he now receives dialysis twice a week. Hannes and his wife Anna travel to Cape Town every Sunday for Hannes to get dialysis on a Monday and a Thursday before traveling the 450km's back to the farm, while leaving their two sons to look after the farm. Unfortunately there is not a hospital closer to the farm that offers dialysis treatment. The medical expenses, travel cost, cost of living in Cape Town as well as keeping the farm going during his absence, is taking a huge financial toll on the Van Dyk family, not mentioning the emotional strain it is putting on them.
