Two years ago, a father stood at a Centurion traffic light holding up a handmade denim skirt. He wasn’t asking for sympathy. He was asking for someone to see his son’s talent.
That moment led to a wave of kindness across South Africa. A simple Facebook post went viral. Donations filled an e-wallet within days. Media picked up the story. A community gathered around a young man they had never met and decided his dream mattered.
That young man is Nkosinathi Immanuel Moyo.
Immanuel grew up in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, the fourth of nine children in a household shaped by unemployment and survival grants. From Grade 9, he taught himself to sew using YouTube tutorials, a needle and thread, and whatever fabric he could find. He altered his own clothes, stitched scraps together for his siblings, and worked weekends as a garden boy to earn money for materials. Fashion became his language long before he had formal training.
