Hi everyone, my name is Jennifer Austin. I’m 26 years old and I live in South Africa. Over the past few years, my life has changed dramatically after being diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), Fibromyalgia, and Seronegative Rheumatic Arthritis. These conditions bring daily challenges such as mobility difficulties, non-epileptic seizures, and chronic pain.

Because of my health, I had to step away from my nursing studies and leave behind a career in animal welfare that I was so passionate about. At 26, I’ve lost a lot of confidence. I no longer feel safe going to the mall, running errands, or even going out with friends. I often can’t attend important medical appointments without someone by my side. My independence has been taken away piece by piece — but there is hope.
