Help Marléne Get a Seizure Response Dog and Reclaim Her Independence
Hi, I’m Marléne — I’m 29 years old, a wife, and a mom to two precious little ones.
In 2021, I was diagnosed with epilepsy. A year later, while holding my newborn daughter at her two-week check-up, I suffered a seizure in the paediatrician’s office. That moment led to the discovery of a brain tumor in my right occipital lobe. Since then, I’ve undergone two brain surgeries — but the seizures haven’t stopped.
My life has changed completely. I can no longer drive, go to the shops on my own, or care for my children without constant fear. I live with the daily anxiety of having a seizure while alone — and the terrifying possibility of SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) haunts every episode.
As a mother, wife, and professional, losing my independence has been incredibly painful. But recently, I saw a glimmer of hope: a video of a woman with a seizure response dog. For the first time in a long time, I felt possibility.
