Help Me Get to my Austrian Artist Residency

I have some really exciting news: I have been awarded the Subnet Media Art Grant for a one-month research and creation residency in Salzburg, Austria this November 2026.

This is a huge opportunity for me because it connects directly to one of the most important projects I have been developing over the last few years: Zazi.

Zazi is my Afrocentric AI music and storytelling project exploring what happens when artificial intelligence meets African languages, music, memory and culture. I have been building Zazi as a way of asking bigger questions about who gets represented in AI, whose voices get preserved, and what African futures could look like when we are not simply consumers of technology, but creators of it.

During my residency in Salzburg, I will be researching German-language music and collecting examples of music and vocal traditions that have distinct African influences. I want to explore what happens when these traditions meet African approaches to rhythm, voice, storytelling and musical memory.
