Update: Please note that, due to continued increases in fuel prices, the cost of flights has exceeded what was initially budgeted. I have therefore adjusted the donation goal of my campaign to more accurately reflect this reality.

My name is Nobuhle Kaylee Kambunga, and I am a second-year master's student at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. I have recently been accepted to present my work at the  20th International Symposium on Microbial Ecology (ISME20), which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand, from 16–21 August 2026.

My research focuses on childhood stunting in South Africa and investigates how environmental conditions in informal settlements influence the gut microbiome, pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes in young children. Childhood stunting has been identified as a major national challenge, with South Africa aiming to reduce stunting by 2030. My research contributes to this goal by informing future policies and interventions surrounding child growth, health, and development.

It is an honour to be accepted to this symposium...
