My Journey
My name is Siphumelele, and I am an Accounting Science graduate from the University of Zululand. I grew up in Kwamancinza, an informal settlement between KwaMashu and Ntuzuma. Today, I am the proud breadwinner for my mother and my daughter, and I currently work at SNG Grant Thornton in Durban.
The Challenge
In 2020 and 2021, I pursued my PGDA at the University of Cape Town (UCT). Unfortunately, I did not pass the program. Beyond the academic disappointment, I was left with an outstanding fee balance of R9,263.85.
Due to my financial situation at the time, the account went unpaid. In August 2025, the University initiated legal action, resulting in a default judgment against me. Because of legal fees and interest, the total amount owing has escalated to R18,000.
