Miriam’s Struggle

At just 22 years old, Miriam is a single mother who is currently unemployed. Despite her incredibly difficult circumstances, she pours all her love and energy into raising Merrick. However, both mother and son are fighting severe physical conditions that affect their hands, threatening their ability to live independent, functional lives.

Miriam suffers from spastic hemiparesis, which has progressively forced her wrist into a severely bent and flexed position. She is slowly losing the use of her hand entirely. As a young single mother trying to care for an active toddler—and trying to find work to provide for him—losing the function of her hand is absolutely devastating.
