Deidre’s Journey – 2025/2026
Deidre’s journey this year has been nothing short of hell.

It started quietly in November 2025 with bowel problems that just wouldn’t settle. By December she was in and out of hospitals — both government and private — where doctors kept missing what
was really happening. They sent her home more than once, telling her it was “just a blockage.” On New Year’s Eve the pain got so bad she was rushed to hospital again, only to be sent home once more. Then, in the early hours of 1 January 2026, at 1am, we were back at Greys Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. A CT scan finally showed the truth: a massive blockage and her colon badly swollen. That same day she went into emergency surgery. It took seven hours and four surgeons. They removed her entire colon and created a stoma bag.
