Our mom is currently in ICU after a serious sinus infection spread to her brain, causing a subdural empyema.
She required emergency brain surgery, including a craniotomy, followed by a spacialist ENT surgical procedure and is now undergoing a lengthy course of antibiotics and intensive medical care.
The infection and surgery have affected her speech, movement and ability to care for herself. She is slowly making progress, but she has a long road ahead.
Once she is medically stable enough to leave hospital, she will need to move to frail care/step-down rehabilitation, where she can receive 24-hour care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. We don't yet know how long she will need this support.
We are asking for your help to give my mom the best possible chance of recovery.
