On 21 February 2026, what began as a normal kayak trip in Hout Bay Harbour turned into something none of us could have imagined.
While guiding on the water, a rabid seal began behaving aggressively toward the group. Without hesitation, Rob placed himself between the seal and his guests, ensuring every single person was safely out of the water before the seal shifted its full attention onto him.
In protecting others, he took the brunt of the attack.
One guest later shared:
“It was terrifying, but Rob was a real hero. He made sure everyone was safe before trying to get himself out. The seal was extremely aggressive and attacked him relentlessly.”
