Help Save Charl’s Life. Urgent Heart Surgery

On 19 July 2025, Charl was rushed to the ER struggling to breathe. He was diagnosed with double pneumonia, which pushed him into heart and kidney failure, and he tested positive for a dangerous virus. Just days later, he suffered a mild stroke.

Since then, he has been in and out of hospital at least nine more times and has spent repeated periods in ICU, battling severe anemia, recurrent heart failure, dangerously low oxygen levels, and constant dizziness. Every time we think he’s improving, something else knocks him down — and on 13 August 2025, he suffered several more strokes. He has already been back in ICU twice since the beginning of the year with severe heart failure.

Doctors have now confirmed that Charl urgently needs valve replacement surgery. Sadly, the procedure is not fully covered, and a R250,000 co-payment is required before the surgery can take place. This is in addition to the nearly R80,000 we have already had to pay out of pocket in just a few short weeks.
