Help Juanita Fight Metastatic Melanoma

Juanita is 40. She’s a wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.

On 16 July 2026 she had multiple seizures and was rushed to hospital. An MRI showed a brain tumour. On 19 July they operated but couldn’t safely remove all of it. The pathology came back as metastatic melanoma, and a residual lesion of approximately 2 cm remains.

Further scans showed the cancer had already spread. There’s a 2.4 cm lesion on her liver, a right external iliac lymph node measuring 12 mm in her pelvis, and a pulmonary nodule measuring 8.4 mm in her left lung that has grown. 

After BRAF testing her treatment changed. She’s now on daily oral targeted therapy (Tafinlar + Mekinist). These meds cost our family about R60 000 a month. This month alone the bill was R56 622.10, paid privately because medical aid wouldn’t cover it.

We’ve already paid privately for the PET/CT (R28 990.25) and the BRAF test (R10 983). That’s nearly R97 000 out of pocket just for those three things, on top of other partial or unpaid medical co...
