Meet Layla
Layla is my heart dog. I got her after losing my childhood dog, Cheeky, when I was 17. Cheeky was born on my 7th birthday, and when I found a puppy born on my 17th birthday, I knew it was meant to be. Since then, she has been my constant companion through everything. From finishing school, to moving out on my own, through ankle surgery, to graduating with my degree, to getting my first “big girl” job, Layla has been by my side.
Layla has overcome so many hurdles. Only three years ago, she suffered a ruptured disc in her neck that left her paralysed. After surgery, a lot of hard work and rehab, she made a wonderful recovery and has been pretty much back to normal.
Now she’s facing a new challenge..

Layla has cushings disease, which is usually caused by a microscopic tumour on the adrenal glands, or on the pituitary gland in the skull. Layla’s tumour is not only the pituitary type, but at 17mm it’s also much larger than usual (it is considered a macroadenoma, rather than a microadenoma). The...
