Our Story
My name is Bernice Long. I’m Marozelle van Der Merwe's mother.
I am reaching out to ask for your help to save the life of 25-year-old Marozelle, a kind, creative, and brave young woman — and a devoted mother to her 3-year-old daughter, Ava.
Marozelle was born on 15 August 2000, healthy and full of life. But at just 1 year and 5 months old, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, a condition she has battled courageously her entire life.
At the age of 5, she underwent cataract surgery and lens transplants after diabetes affected her eyesight. Despite these challenges, she never lost her bright spirit or her passion for art, drawing, and music.
In March 2022, she was blessed with the birth of her daughter, Ava, a tiny but strong baby weighing 2.3 kg. Ava was born with strabismus (crossed eyes) — another side effect of her mother’s condition — but together, they have faced every obstacle with courage and love.
