Help 19-Year-Old Stephen Rebuild His Life

On 21 February 2026, our 19-year-old son Stephen was involved in a devastating accident in Barberton.

In a single moment, everything changed.

Stephen broke his back in three places. He suffered severe internal bleeding and underwent emergency surgery where part of his intestine had to be removed. He fractured his pelvis and his dominant hand, and was placed on a ventilator while fighting a serious infection.

No parent is ever prepared to stand beside an ICU bed, watching their child fight for his life.

By God’s grace, there was no brain bleed and no spinal cord damage. His spinal fusion surgery was successful, and he is now breathing on his own. For this, we are deeply grateful.

But Stephen remains in ICU at Mediclinic Nelspruit and still faces further surgery and a long, painful road of rehabilitation.

His ICU stay alone costs R45,000 per day.

Stephen had just begun working as a student teacher at Laerskool Barberton. Becoming a teacher is his calling — to guide and inspire...
