Who I Am

My name is Lorrel Singh, and I’m someone who deeply believes in kindness, community, and second chances. I also run Lovers of Humanity, an initiative that brings people together to uplift those in need through small, meaningful acts of generosity.

In August 2023, I met a man at a traffic light in Midrand who would change my life as much as I hoped to change his. That man is Sthembiso (Lloyd) Nkuna.

Sthembiso’s Story

Sthembiso lost his job during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many South Africans, he was left with no income and a family to support. Instead of giving up, he put on a suit every day and stood at the corner of Harry Galaun and Berger Road in Midrand—collecting trash from motorists' cars, recycling cans, and doing anything he could to earn an honest living.

When I first saw him, dressed like he was going for an interview, I knew immediately that this was someone who hadn’t given up on himself. And I made a promise to help him find his way back into employment.<...
