About The Academy

Founded in 2007, The Academy for Adults with Autism began as a Social Support Group, creating a space where parents, guardians, and family members of autistic individuals could come together to share experiences, discuss challenges, and find solutions to the daily struggles faced by those on the autism spectrum.

From these humble beginnings in a church hall, The Academy has grown into a multifaceted organisation offering a day centre, residential home, and occupational facilities for adults who are unable to work in the open labour market or protective workshops.

One of our key initiatives, the Eco Bugs Project, provides meaningful occupation for autistic adults through a recycling programme that also involves the wider community. Participants collect, sort, and sell recyclable materials—promoting both environmental awareness and social inclusion.
