About This Campaign

Drum majorettes or “drummies” first appeared in the 1970s with marching girls performing in street parades. Today, in many South African schools, it is a competitive sport. Durbanville Junior Majorettes consists of a group of girls that represent all different cultures, religions and beliefs. The young athletes carry out to their different communities the values of life, love for each other, and the message that you can reach your dreams in life if you believe in yourself, and have self-respect, especially towards their bodies.
Drum Majorettes is centred on providing safe spaces for young girls, to be mentored and practise positive self-image. The sport provides athletes with an opportunity to lead and to showcase their talents and passions. It also challenges athletes to thrive outside of their comfort zones and to persevere through any circumstance.
