Our family never imagined we would be facing this battle.

My brother, Ruan Raath (36), was diagnosed with stomach cancer about a year ago. He faced chemotherapy with incredible courage and underwent a total gastrectomy. After months of treatment, we believed we had won the fight.

Just as life was beginning to feel hopeful again, Ruan suddenly developed slurred speech and problems with his balance. After extensive scans and testing, our world was turned upside down once more.

The doctors have now confirmed that the cancer has spread to the lining of his brain. He will soon begin chemotherapy and radiation treatment in the hope of slowing the disease and giving him more precious time with his family.

Ruan is a devoted husband, a loving father to a little girl, and someone who has always put others before himself. Watching him fight this disease has been heartbreaking, but his courage continues to inspire everyone around him.
