Re-imagining Education as a Social Justice Prototype

Our Story: From a School with Walls to a Movement Without Them

Since 2015, Starseed Community School has been a home for families from starkly different neighbourhoods across Cape Town who believe education should be local, inclusive, and community-led. We began as a small group of parents and teachers re-imagining Waldorf education for the South African context. 

Over the last decade, we grew into a diverse community of over 90 learners. However, the disruptions of 2025 led to a temporary drop in student numbers. While our journey has included the instability of evictions and zoning hurdles, we have realized something profound: We are not a school that has lost its buildings; we are a school finding ways to re-imagine education beyond them.
