And then everything changed...

Dirk got cellulitis and severe inflammation in his right leg. He couldn't drive because the pain was so bad, and I didn't have a license, so I did what I thought was best and turned to Google. Applying hot and cold compressions to the leg would ease the pain, I read, so I did, sort of.

I applied a cold towel and then a hot towel but was running out of hot water (small geyser), so I decided to put the towel in the microwave. I know I was stupid and not thinking, but there I was, standing in front of the person I love and seeing him basically passed out from the pain. I had to do something.

He ended up in the hospital the next day. Doctors said I could have killed him, not by the burn itself, but by the severe pain it caused. His body couldn’t handle it and went into shock. His kidneys and liver failed, and doctors then put him into a coma as it would have been easier on him with the pain and easier on his body trying to deal with everything that was now happening.
