From the Ashes We Rise is a 350+ page feminist popular education book written collectively by women from Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats. It brings together lived experience, political analysis, healing, and organizing into a shared body of movement knowledge.

This book was written intentionally and painstakingly. It emerged from years of feminist praxis rooted in community work, care, and organising. Stories were held with consent and care. Pain was not extracted or sensationalised. Knowledge was generated collectively and with political purpose.

What this book does

The book captures stories of care, resistance, and survival, while also making sense of the wider systems shaping women’s lives. It shows how women in poor and marginalised communities deconstruct global politics, neoliberal economics, and securitization and connect these forces to everyday realities such as hunger, violence, unpaid care work, and community safety.
