John Macuacua lost his right arm and leg when he was tied to train tracks by robbers wanting to “punish” him because he dared to fight back to try and protect his hard-earned belongings on Saturday 19 October 2024. 

He is receiving medical care at Mamelodi Hospital but the road to recovery will be long and hard and since John is a general labourer and gardener he will likely not be able to work soon, if at all. 

Now four weeks later, with the help of the community, Pretoria radio station GROOTfm 90.5, a specialist in prosthesis, NPO Wheelchairs on the Run and SPAR, Macuacua has renewed hope for the future. John was gifted him an electric wheelchair, is working with a team to eventually get a prosthetic leg and he was gifted SPAR vouchers to ensure his family’s immediate needs are taken care of.  

After the ordeal, John is now starting to make plans for the future and hopes to start a micro chicken  farming business once he recovered.
