About This Campaign
At 18 months, Hunter was diagnosed with a brain tumour that grew around his optic nerve resulting in blindness in one eye and drastically reduced vision in the other. Over the past 8 years, he has endured chemotherapy, multiple surgeries and recently intense radiotherapy in the hope of halting further growth. The severe reaction of his brain tissue to the radiation is unprecedented, and he is having to manage severe necrosis which has resulted in damage to his ears. He can no longer walk, use his hands or hold himself up. He can no longer speak.
Hunter’s mom is my best friend. I’ve never had one quite like her.
Shirley and I took up competing in Hyrox as a doubles team. A gruelling 8km of running with 8 workout stations in between. We’ve had fun training together coached by Scottie Mac at the Yard in Cape Town. It’s been a great reprieve from the reality Shirley faces on a daily basis. But most importantly we are doing it for Hunter.
When we need to dig deeper, run a little faster or push a little harder. We remember how hard Hunter is working.
