I lived this struggle.

I grew up in Mandeni, walking long distances to school on dusty roads, often with worn‑out shoes or none. Growing up like that affects you in ways that stay with you the discomfort, the embarrassment, the feeling of being different, and the quiet loss of confidence that no child should experience.

What hurts most is that years later, I still see the same struggle.

My name is Thandazile Mathonsi, founder of Mandeni Helping Hands (NPO 311‑938). Through my community volunteer work and engagement with schools and families, I continue to witness learners attending school without proper shoes. Some walk long distances every day, risking pain and injury, yet still arrive eager to learn.

Seeing children face the same challenges I grew up with is what pushed me to start this organisation. I could not ignore it — because for me, this is not just a statistic or a project. It is lived experience.

This campaign focuses on one simple but powerful need providing school shoes for vulnerable learners in Mandeni.
