Help keep the doors open at Ikhaya Labantu 💛

Hi there, and thanks for stopping by!

Ikhaya Labantu means "home of the people", and that's exactly what we are. We're a small care home in Langa, Cape Town, and we've been looking after people who need a home the most since 1986.

Who we look after
We're home to 34 residents aged 60 and over. Many are frail, disabled or living with long-term illness. Some have families who love them dearly but work all day and simply can't afford a carer, or live in homes where a wheelchair won't even fit through the front door. Others have no one at all. Here, they're safe, fed, cared for and still part of a community. They laugh, sing, sit in the sun and are treated with dignity every single day.

Our amazing team
We have 26 dedicated staff, mostly caregivers, working in four teams around the clock. Bathing, feeding, changing nappies, giving medication, sitting with someone who's lonely at 2am: they do it all, and they do it with love.

Why we need you
Here's the honest bit: we get no government funding. None. Eve...
