Lone Neckel opens this Backabuddy account in honor of Sylvia
My name is Lone Neckel, and I had the privilege of calling Sylvia Kirstein my dear friend.
Sylvia was one of the kindest, most generous people I’ve ever known. She gave freely of her time and heart, offering countless children free reading lessons. Through her patience and love, she helped them not only learn to read but also to grow in confidence and to discover the joy of books.
Her life was tragically taken during a robbery here in Melkbosstrand, leaving our community heartbroken. Yet even in our grief, I believe we can honour her beautiful legacy by creating something lasting and meaningful.
Together, we are establishing The Sylvia Reading House at the Melkbos Care Centre — a warm, welcoming space where children can curl up with books, dream big, and feel the same encouragement Sylvia always gave so generously.
