Inspiring a new generation of biodiversity custodians!
Ingcungcu Sunbird Restoration is a non-profit company based in Cape Town that aims to reconnect urban youth and communities to nature by planting fynbos gardens in schools on the Cape Flats and creating hands-on learning experiences.
In our Eco-Club Programme, learners participate in after-school environmental workshops and plant gardens in their schools. Learners have the opportunity to intimately observe and document nature using creative processes such as photography, art and poetry. They also learn skills such as bird monitoring, research, writing and landscape architecture.
We are currently working with 80 learners at four schools in Steenberg and Lavender Hill and have established eight gardens. These gardens act as stepping-stones between Muizenberg and Rondevlei Nature Reserve, creating a corridor of movement for birds.
