On the morning of 8 August 2026, 33-year-old Ismail Van Rensburg was living his life as he always had, as a hardworking husband, father and motor mechanic

He appeared to be healthy

But that morning, everything changed.

Ismail suddenly experienced severe shortness of breath, accompanied by massive swelling in his feet and ankles. He was rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital, where he has remained ever since.

For weeks, Ismail and his family have faced uncertainty, fear and countless difficult moments.

Then, on Friday, 28 August 2026, the devastating diagnosis came:

Ismail is in heart failure and requires a heart transplant.

At just 33 years old, Ismail is now fighting for his life while waiting for a suitable donor heart to become available.
