Jamestown Mobility Buddies

Carel is a guy that likes to challenge himself with endurance races! He has done the Argus, Two Oceans, Iron Man, Three Peaks, Sky Run, Comrades, Bergriver and Freedom Challenge - to name a few! 

Last year in April, he was challenged in another way. A terrible fire storm blew through Jamestown and while he was trying to protect the house, a massive tree branch fell on him and his brother. His brother was bloodied and battered and Carel broke his back and pelvis. It was a massive shock, but with grateful hearts we celebrated that they were still alive! 

Carel has a special strategy when the going gets tough, and he used that to convince the doctors to reconsider surgery. They agreed, but he had to lay on his back for 6 weeks. He was not allowed to twist his spine, sit up on his own or for long periods, reach for anything or walk. Nevermind run, row or bike over mountains! 

At the start he had to be totally immobile. He could not scratch his toes, get a drink of water, open the window for fresh air or go to the bathroom. Quite static for a guy on...
