Meet Jan Du Rand, affectionately known as Oom Jan, a lifelong resident of Klerksdorp and a beloved figure in our city.

I first encountered Oom Jan many years ago when he managed the bustling pub Legends. Little did I know then that fate would bring us together again, this time as employer and employee. About six years ago, I established 1965, a vibrant Restaurant/Pub, and there was Oom Jan, applying for a job. We forged a strong working relationship over the next three years until I sold the business. Despite the change, we stayed in touch, connected by mutual respect and friendship.

Now, Oom Jan faces a serious health challenge. He has Sugar Diabetes, a condition that, despite being under control, has severely affected his feet. Without prompt medical intervention, he risks losing a foot, a situation that could be prevented with the right treatment. The cost of this treatment is daunting, as medical expenses continue to rise steeply.
