Education or nothing

I live in a gang ridden neighborhood where  there is a huge amount of children not attending school. Due to poverty, unemployment ,drug abuse,etc many parents do not register their children for school. I enroll these children who come from broken homes and thereafter see that they attend regularly.  Kairos Project has 61 children from Ottery, all primary school. I physically go to their houses and see that they go to school . After school I check if they are doing their homework. If there is problems at school the principal /teachers contacts me because the parents are most times unavailable due to substance abuse, incarceration and  various other issues. If I suspect emotional issues, I arrange counseling interventions by qualified individuals. I am basically an education surrogate because the parents are absent in their lives.  Our aim is simple. No dropouts for our Kairos Kids and we will remain involved untill the end of matric and hopefully tertiary education. All these kids need is daily encouragement and someone who believes in them.
