Juandre

Juandre is an 11-year-old boy who was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare eye cancer, when he was just two years old.

Because of the cancer, Juandre lost his right eye. The cancer had also spread to his optic nerve, moving dangerously close to his brain. At the time, we were given two treatment options: chemotherapy, with a 50% chance of success, or brachytherapy, with a 90% chance of success. We chose brachytherapy to give Juandre the best possible chance.

The treatment saved his life, but it also damaged his eye socket. Over the years, Juandre has undergone several operations to try and stretch the socket to the correct size, but sadly, none of them worked.

His only option now is to receive a new prosthetic eye every one to two years as he grows.
