Somehow I am still here in 2026, after fighting stage 4 colon cancer since Jan 2023. All I wanted was some time to help make a difference to the fight I had to climb in the ring with, a fight that my younger sister is still battling, as I sit ringside right next to her, and so I am am hoping that somehow we can keep the candle burning on childhood cancer and unite against the disparity in cancer treatment for children, predominantly in the public sector, but also those caught in a bureaucratic private sector as well.
This year on 10 March 2026 the World Health Organisation published this statement; Globally, more than 80% of children with cancer can be cured in high-income countries, whereas in many low- and middle-income countries fewer than 30% are cured.
And continued to say;
the disparity is particularly stark in Africa. IARC's recent analysis found that childhood-cancer survival is substantially lower in sub-Saharan Africa, with survival closely associated with a country's level of development.
